Education
Are schools now actually contributing to a true education? What is a true education? Many will tell you that it is what students learn now, such as science, math, or history. These are subjects that, nonetheless are important, but do not matter depending on what I choose to do with my life after school. All students are taught the same basic things, but it is very likely that these students will be doing something that does not involve half of what they learned at school. As a high school student, I may be taking AP classes, doing extracurricular activities, and participating in sports, but I have yet to understand the process of taking out a loan, or even balancing a check book. Soon, I am going to graduate, and be set out to find my own path in the world. Although I have been educated in many subjects, I still do not feel as I am ready to start an adult life. My most feared and anticipated day, is the day I graduate. I want to finally be free, and be able to make my own decisions, follow my own path, yet I am also extremely terrified of the quick and sudden transition of a high school student, to grown man who must make his own decisions. I believe that a school should prepare me for that day, to be able to take away that fear, and replace it with confidence, and a ready attitude. I do not believe that schools have been able to accomplish this yet. Every year, it is becoming a more important subject, but not important enough. The amount of responsibility that falls on ones shoulders after graduation, can make someone who is not prepared for it, crumble to their knees. I do not want to experience this, and hope that future generations will not either. A true education is not the grades in a person's report card, it is how ready they will be for their future, and whether or not they can succeed in what they wish to do.
